32 months

talan cash turned 32 months today! with each month he becomes funnier as well as sassier. he continues to talk up a storm and loves to repeat anything he hears from you or the tv. and he remembers things that we have no idea how he can remember.
after only telling him once or twice, he now will tell you that his birthday is on april 9th. he probably has no idea what that even means, but he knows that's when it is. so anytime birthday talk comes up he is asking for his "april birthday cake?!" although april sounds more like aphral.
there has been a lot of christmas talk what with it being december and all, so anytime we go to a store and he sees christmas decorations he just points and says "christmas!" when we put our tree up "christmas!" instead of christmas tree.
talan has always gone through phases of waking up in the middle of the nite. even at 32 months, he still does it. it usually starts out with him being sick, so when he wakes up i typically go in to comfort him. and then in no time it's become a routine and he continues waking up crying which we then have to break again. it usually only takes about 2 nites of us ignoring him to break the cycle, but it's not an easy 2 nites. this past month he wasn't just crying, he was SCREAMING at us. "MAMA!!!" at the top of his lungs. dave went in to get him one nite and he continued screaming for me. he eventually started yelling "no dada! want mama!" and the next nite, before anyone even went in to get him, he started yelling "mama! mama! no dada, want mama!" it's good to be wanted, right?!
he has also gotten into the habit of saying he needs to go potty when he is supposed to be taking a nap. he has never actually gone on the toilet. and he usually only requests to try when he's supposed to be sleeping at nap time. i remember hayden pulling this as well and it's a fine line. do i encourage it and let him sit on the toilet in hopes of him actually one day going, or do i call his bluff and leave him to continue yelling in his crib in hopes of him actually taking a nap?! what to do. half of the time when i go in to get him he's telling me he has to "poop on the potty" however, the aroma of poop is already in the air. he hasn't quite realized that he already pooped in his diaper, opportunity missed.
i worked for about a week and a half this past month so every day talan went over to mom's house. he typically is really bad about going to sleep in a pack and play...hayden was always like this as well. i figured there would be no way he would actually take a nap there, but told mom she should put him down anyway, if anything, just to give herself a break! but apparently he slept great there every single day! he did, however, climb out of the pack and play twice. we are hoping this doesn't carry over to the crib at home!!!
the weather has gotten much cooler which means heavier jackets. i put a new jacket on talan one day and while riding in the car to mom's he kept trying to take it off as it was riding up and irritating his chin. i simply told him...no talan, that's your rockstar jacket. you look like a rockstar! and that ended it. he couldn't wait to go to mom's house and show it off to mom, jessica and justin. he still will go up to people when he is wearing it and say "rockstar jacket! i a rockstar!"
among the many things he says, i most often hear "i don't like it!" which usually just means "i don't WANT it." a phrase i am SURE he picked up from his big brother!! he can be eating something just fine but suddenly want to get down. so he'll turn on the sass and yell "i don't want it!"
his eating is so-so. it just depends on the day. he still loves almost all veggies and fruits, which is great. some days he'll eat almost nothing for lunch or dinner and other days he'll eat everything on his plate without a fight. he loves suckers and any other kind of candy, but if he's done eating, even a bribe for some candy won't get him to take another bite. if he won't eat his chicken, i can almost always get him to sit there and eat a whole plate of cucumbers, lettuce, blackberries or some other fruit or veggie.
talan is now wearing a size 3t pant and we don't even need to roll them up. however, they are usually pretty big in the waist, so if they don't have the drawstring waist they fall right off of him. many of hayden's old pants don't have that as it's a slightly newer thing so they are pretty much useless to us. he still wears many 2t shirts, but they are getting quite a bit shorter, so 3t shirts are a much better option. his feet are still giant and it is a struggle to simply get his sleeper feet over those things. it's insane.
talan loves to "play games", especially at grandma's house. playing games simply means he wants to take a game out, move the pieces around the board, put the game away and pull out another game. he has absolutely NO interest in actually sitting and learning how to play a game the correct way.
a new thing thrown into his rock and roll lifestyle has been the wahwah peddle. he will ask for songs with the wahwah peddle in it, run and grab his guitar and start tapping his foot telling us it's his "wahwah peddle."
talan continues to love music and can pick out most instruments in a song. he also is great at picking up on lyrics. he loves baba o'reilly by the who. he loves the movie toy story and watches it almost every day. he loves going to meijer. he loves running around the car once before getting into his seat. he loves playing with the corner of his blanket. he loves his binky's and sneaks them out from his crib or drawer or wherever else we might try to hide them. he loves candy and suckers. he loves going to the bank because he gets suckers. he loves playing his drums. he loves breakdancing in the living room. he loves to run around with hayden. he loves to show off his skateboard tricks in the living room. he loves to entertain people. he loves to pull dave's finger and make him fart. he loves puzzles and has really started to actually get how they go together. he loves grandpa and almost never calls him papa anymore. he loves going to grandma's house. he loves using his manners and does it all the time.
talan continues to hate sitting still. he hates having to sit for a meal. he hates breakfast and rarely eats anything but a poptart. he hates having to have his hair washed at bath time. he hates being told no. he hates being kept out of hayden's room. he hates taking naps, but usually does it anyway. he hates being put in his stroller when we go out.
talan makes our days that much more enjoyable and that much more crazy. hayden loves having him as a little brother...most days. and we love having him as our son. he's the funniest, funkiest toddler on the planet.
happy 32 months, t-money. we love you!!!

31 months

today talan turned 31 months old. he continues to be mr. personality and loves for anyone and everyone to watch him.
he continues to add new words, and new phrases, to his every day vocabulary. many times he'll say something and i'll have to ask him to repeat it as i'm thinking...surely he did not just say what i think he said. and sure enough, it turns out he did say what i thought he said.
the other day he decided that saying "check this out, mom!" is far better than "watch this!" so you can now hear him all day long saying "check this out!" "hey guys, check this out!" or some other variation.
he was standing next to me the other day and i handed him something and i got a "thanks, pal." that was one of those moments i asked him to repeat it as i could not believe that is what he actually said. he never did really repeat it, but i was pretty sure he said it. then a few days later, i helped him out of the car and i heard it again "thanks, pal." and this time he did repeat it.
talan loves to color lately. it might not hold his attention for a really long time, but he asks almost every day to color. some days he doesn't even ask. he'll search out some crayons, markers, pens, pencils...whatever he can find, and color on anything. we have had crayon on the basement carpet, the living room rug, the couches, the toy box, the train table, toys, his clothes, himself, on toys at friends houses. ANYWHERE. i have decided i need to collect all of our writing utensils and throw out anything that doesn't say "washable."
we have been talking a lot recently about birthday parties. mostly because we are starting to figure out what we are going to do for hayden's birthday party. but we also already know that talan's 3rd birthday party will be yo gabba gabba. so for about a week, talan would not shut up about his birthday. he seemed to think everyday was his birthday and he would constantly question me as to where his yo gabba cake was. or where was his yo gabba party hat. when he would finally realize that TODAY was not his yo gabba gabba birthday he would then ask "tomorrow?" i think we have moved past this, and i'm going to try not to talk birthday talk around him anymore!
he still loves being outside. he loves skateboarding, either on a real skateboard or just pretending while he's inside. he loves to ride bikes with hayden. he loves playing hide and go seek with hayden even though he's really, really bad at it. if he's supposed to hide, he jumps out right when hayden says "here i come." if he's supposed to count, he doesn't. he loves motorcycles. he loves playing with cars. he loves candy and cookies. he loves raw pasta. he loves bath time. he loves "grandpa" which he almost always calls him now instead of "papa." he loves to be the center of attention. he loves max and ruby. he loves jumping on the bed.
he hates having his hair washed while in the bath that he loves. he hates being told no. he hates sitting for meals. he hates sitting in general. he hates going to the dr. with me and will cry when i have to lay down so we can listen to the babies heartbeat.
he continues to be a generally happy toddler but is all boy and is definitely 2 1/2. he has opinions and makes them known. he gets over his tantrums pretty quickly. he'll often times put himself in a timeout if we threaten one. other times he won't stay in his time out. he makes us laugh and love more than we ever thought possible.
we love you, t-money! happy 31 months!!!

doin' work

talan loves to put other peoples shoes and hats on. he does not like getting his picture taken, however.
today talan saw dave's ledco hat and decided he just had to wear it. soon after putting it on, he went and grabbed his laptop and got to work. just like dad.

a trip to three cedars farm

on thursday, october 8th, talan and i took a trip with some of our mops group to three cedars farm in northville.
i had never even heard of it before, but one my the girls from my mops sister table had gone and said that we should plan a trip. unfortunately, not a whole lot of people from our table were able to make it, but we still did have a good size group. about 20 including the kids.
we headed out and got there at around 10am and talan was able to run around their big play area where they had a stationary train, a bike track with bikes and push tractors, slides, chickens and a pretend cow that they could milk.
at around 11am i had to wrestle with talan in order to get him to leave the play area so that we could head out on our hayride to the pumpkin patch. we were each able to pick a pumpkin and then we headed back for a donut and cider. all for only $6 a person!
talan had a great time running through the pumpkin patch and picking up all of the pumpkins. he would pick one up, show it off, throw it down and then run to find another one. he eventually found "the one" and we headed back to the tractor so we could go get our donuts!
talan had a really fun time but didn't like having to leave the play area and then he didn't want to leave the pumpkin patch. so there were a few meltdowns, but in all it was a great day.
he couldn't wait for hayden to come home so that he could show him the pumpkin that he picked (and the one i picked for hayden!). hayden was bummed that he didn't get to go, but we'll try to make another trip there soon.

he kept thinking that this was the pumpkin patch:
feeding the goats some hay:
he tried rolling this one to our car but it just didn't work:

headin' into the tractor shed to pick himself out a good john deere:

pushing his way past the other kids so he could ring the bell:
milkin' the cow:

he loved ringing this bell and then dancing as it rang:

sitting in the coal car:
thank goodness the farmer took his keys with him:

he made it look like he was peddling here, but he wasn't:
running out to pick his pumpkin:
he's not a fan of dirty hands:
this one:
no, this one:
nope. this is the best one:
here is the one he finally decided on and brought home with him:

everyone headed back to the tractor:

30 months

today talan cash turned 30 months old, otherwise known as 2 1/2. i can't believe that in 6 more months he'll be 3!!! he already knows that his next birthday party is going to be a yo gabba gabba party and talks about it all of the time.
he continues to make us laugh every single day and somehow his personality grows quicker than his feet.
yes, i said quicker than his feet. this kid has gigantic feet. hayden always had fat feet and we had to go and buy him wide and extra wide shoes at about $60 a pair. it's the same thing with talan. except, of course, the fact that his feet measure bigger than hayden's did at this age. not only is he a wide, but he was measured and sent home with a size 9.5 shoe. now, i realize this might not mean a lot to most of you, so let me help you out. hayden is almost 7 years old and is wearing between a size 12 and 13. at this rate, talan will be wearing hayden's size 12 next year.
talan continues to love shoes. he can't wait to put them on and go to wherever we have planned for the day. he'll most likely complain while we're out and about but getting him ready to go out is a breeze. he'll bring me his socks, shoes and even my shoes saying "here mom." until i put them on.
he is quite the independent little thing and has to do everything on his own. i know most kids are like this, so he's just trying to keep up. instead of saying "let me do it" talan says "no! i twy (try) it!" and will grab whatever we have and take it for himself. shortly after trying whatever he simply had to try himself we will then hear "mama/dada! i did it!"
he is also very into performing for his audience. we hear "watch this mom/dad!" at least 32 times a day. one day i was downstairs and i heard dave walk in the house from work. i heard talan run to him yelling "watch this dad!" over and over. dave couldn't even make his way out of the living room because talan just had so many things that dave had to watch.
most of the things we are told to watch are "cool tricks" or "cool moves." he loves to breakdance in the living room and most recently he set his foam car track and used that as his floor. in order to show us his skateboard tricks he will skip sideways and jump or he'll move the rug so it has a bump in it and jump over that.
for awhile this month he had decided that he couldn't just simply tell us "no." we might not really understand what he meant. so he would say "uh uh. no" every time he told me no. that seems to have passed, but he is still a HUGE fan of the word no and uses it more than making us "watch this."
even with all of his sauciness, bossiness and "no's!" talan is probably one of the most polite toddlers i've ever come across. dave and i just recently discussed and decided that we can say talan ALMOST ALWAYS says please and thank you when asking or getting things. he certainly says it way more than hayden does...or ever did. if he does forget we just need to give him a simple reminder and he'll sweetly say it. ahhh, a break from the sass for at least a couple of seconds.
it's hard to make a 2 year old understand what it means that their mother is pregnant but talan will occasionally talk about it. mostly when asked "where is mama's baby?" to which he will reply "in her tummy." that is usually followed by a "baby POP!" which is something that has carried on from hayden from when i was pregnant with talan. apparently a baby is in my tummy until suddenly one day that baby pops out.
talan LOVES babies but one day we went to drop off a meal to a friend that had recently had one. talan pretty much hid behind me the whole time we were visiting. he would occasionally pop his head out from behind me and wave at the baby that i was holding. not sure if he was a bit scared and thinking "uh oh, the pop happened so soon?!" or what, but he was a bit freaked out by something so small! maybe he prefers the slightly older babies like i always did!
at the beginning of the month, talan loved to open the pantry, stand there and say "ummmm" and then state what he wants. if i told him no, he would move on to the next thing "ummm..." until i finally would give him something. towards the end of the month things have changed a bit. he apparently thinks he's too old to ask, he'll just go in, grab something and hand it to me to have me open it. that is if he doesn't find a way to open it himself.
his mischief making ways continued this month and it seems as though he has sprouted extra long arms as well. if he sees ANYTHING on the counter that could be of interest to him, he grabs it. one day i had been out and bought both of the boys a pumpkin cookie. i had showed hayden while talan was asleep but never did show talan. they were in a small brown paper bag and you couldn't tell what was in it. i ran downstairs to throw in a load of laundry and when i came back up, talan was standing next to the couch with the brown paper bag that was empty. one cookie was laying on the couch with several bites taken out of it and the cookie was in his hand as he was currently taking bites from it.
on another occasion, i had made tortilla strips to go in our chicken tortilla soup which both of the boys love to eat (the tortilla strips of course, not the soup). one day talan managed to take the big container down from the counter, brought it to the living room, opened it up, ate who knows how many and then dumped the rest on the living room floor and crushed them into millions of pieces.
on yet another day he apparently found some crayons and took them to the living room where he colored all over the rug and a bit on the couch. he didn't stop there, though, he then somehow carried a brand new pack of juice boxes upstairs and then opened it. he opened about 4 of the straws and then put straws into 2 of the juice boxes and then brought them up onto my bed.
for awhile this month talan would sing the abc's all of the time. no matter what he was doing, he was also singing the abc's. it's possible it's because we've never really sung any other kids songs to him so that's about all he knows. cuz to be honest, the other song he often sings would be "ay oh, let's go!" (blitzkrieg bop) by the ramones.
on many evenings before hayden was read to at bed time, talan would pick out a book and hayden would read to him before he went down. it's really one of the sweetest things.
more big news from this month, talan's old man smoker cough is back in action. the last time we were at the dr. she had told us that it was probably time to head to a pulmanologist to have it checked out. there was hope that he would grow out of it, but after 2 years she decided to send him on to a specialist. well, at that point, his cough pretty much went away for the summer. i figured i wouldn't call and bring him in when he wasn't having a problem with it. then one day a few weeks ago he came down with a cold and had a fever and the cough came back. i could hear him in the middle of the nite coughing his lungs up. so after a couple of days i called the dr. and they got us in the next day. the dr. was GREAT and explained that he isn't a fan of giving medications to kids, however, in talan's case we needed to give him several in order to get rid of the symptoms and then we would go from there.
he said he thinks we are dealing with an asthma type of thing and that it's not allergies. he said that over the summer he should have gotten worse if it were allergies and not better. plus, with him getting sick and then the cough coming on with the cooler weather, he said that just seems to be the pattern. so he sent us home with about 4 different prescriptions to try to clear it all up. he no longer coughs in the middle of the nite and doesn't seem to cough like he was after running around a whole lot, but the cough is still there some. he continues to be on an inhaler treatment and we'll go back to see the dr. in a couple of weeks to have him looked at again. if the coughing and wheezing hasn't cleared up enough he may do a chest x-ray to check that all out. as usual, talan never really seems to be too bothered by it, although it certainly is embarrassing taking a kid out in public that sounds like that!
the most annoying thing talan has gotten into the habit of this month is waking up in the middle of the night. he's been doing it for about 2 weeks now...pretty much ever since going to the dr. and being put on medications. for awhile we would go in and recover him or give him some water. but now it seems as though it's just habit so we've refused to go in the past 3 or 4 nites. each nite the screaming has gotten less and less, but it's still annoying. he'll wake up and first start crying for one of us. when he realizes we aren't coming, he'll start screaming at the top of his lungs. lately he's been screaming "WAKE UP MOM!!!" i'm hoping this ends quickly. but in the mean time, we've been closing our door and turning the fan on high to try to drown him out.
talan still loves music, his favorite new song is "so what" by pink which he calls the nana song. he loves to play with trains. he loves to makes messes. he loves to dribble, kick, throw and catch balls. he loves yo gabba gabba, dora, diego and max and ruby. he loves to play his drums. he loves to show off. he loves to walk hayden to the bus stop and run with the big kids. he loves to play outside. he loves picking up 2 leaves before getting into the car. he loves baths. he loves messing with dave's guitar peddals. he loves mcdonald's. he loves french fries. he's recently started really liking lemonade. he loves his binky and sneaks it every single day, no matter where we hide it. he loves his blanket. he loves being covered at nite....it started out with 1 blanket and now it's 3. he loves to rock out. he loves to be funny. he loves playing in hayden's room. he loves getting drinks of water from the bathroom. he loves eating lunch on a tray and watching dora. he loves motorcycles. he loves papa whom he mostly calls "gwandpa" now. he says " oh yeah!" whenever he hears or sees something he loves. when asked "what does phee say?" he says "woah" and then says "phee...cuckoo!"
he hates having water in his face. he hates being changed. he hates sitting still. he hates sitting in his stroller. he hates having to sit in a highchair at a restaurant. he hates bugs. he hates when somebody else dances or sings when he is. he hates eating a regular breakfast. he hates being told no.
talan continues to be a generally happy toddler. he is funnier than any kid i've ever met, and he knows it. he's also cooler than any kid i've ever met and he also knows that. he keeps us on our toes all day long, and things we should be mad about, we usually can't help but laugh at.
we love you so much, baby talan! happy 30 months!!!

talan's newest skills

talan plays his drums every day. he has always been good, especially considering he was given a full drum set on the day that he turned 2. he has pretty much always been good about keeping a beat.
recently he's gotten really good. so good that i have to remind myself when i'm hearing the drumming that it's our TWO year old drumming, not dave or even our six year old.
here are some video's of him showing off his newest drum skills.

picking apples, red and green

opening day for picking honey crisp apples at erwin's orchards was today, which was also hayden's first day of first grade. so, unfortunately, hayden wasn't able to join us this year.
after waving goodbye to hayden on the bus, mom, dad, jenn, rainah, talan and myself all headed to south lyon to pick some apples and get some donuts!
honey crisp apples have become a really popular apple. a couple of years ago we showed up and they told us they were close to being all picked...and they had only been open for a few hours!!! this year we got there around 10 (they open at 9) since we had to see hayden off to school but there were still plenty to pick. however, this year they decided to rip everybody off since they are such a popular apple. if we were going to pick a bushel of any other apple we would have paid $28 ($26 with a coupon). but since i was picking honey crisp apples they charged me $40 and i wasn't even able to use the coupon!! but boy, are those honey crisp apples good!!!
we paid for our apples and hopped on the tractor to go pick our apples. i brought the stroller thinking talan would be running all over the place, but he actually did really well staying around us. i think rainah is a good influence on him! he wasn't the best apple picker helper, but he did pick a few that he could eat. and instead of taking one bite out of every apple in the orchard the way hayden did several years back, he actually ate the apple down to the core.
after we picked out honey crisps, we headed to the cars to drop them off. then we headed back out on the tractor to go and pick some empire apples. after dropping those off at the cars, we then let talan and rainah play on the bikes and in the hay maze before we went to get our donuts. talan didn't want to stop riding on the bikes even though they were way too big for him, but with a promise of a donut he eventually caved.
the bees surrounded us the second we walked outside with our donuts so we tried to get the kids to eat them quickly as we were walking to the car. talan took maybe 3 bites of his but somehow ended up COVERED in sugar. i honestly have no idea how he did it as it looked like he had more sugar on him then the donut ever had on it.
we headed home and tried (and failed) to get the kids to eat some lunch and then we just hung out and helped peel some apples for our apple pancake dinner later that evening.
i headed home at about 3:45 so i could get hayden from the bus and bring him back over to mom and dad's where dave also joined us after work.
it was a long, exhausting but fun day and the pancakes were delicious!! hayden was bummed that he wasn't able to go but i promised him we would go another time. we have SO many apples though, so now i'm thinking maybe one day i'll take him raspberry picking with me!
and i think next year i'll be looking into other orchard's and seeing if they rip you off on the honey crisps as well. if they do, i'll still buy them, but don't tell them that.
