best buds

talan just loves isaac gregg. after really only meeting him one time, he knew exactly who he was. they are several months apart so sometimes they aren't in the same class at church. they have once again reunited in the 2 year old class and talan is so happy to see isaac every sunday.
nancy was singing in the services this weekend so she asked if we could watch isaac for her on saturday. i was hanging out with the boys all day and dave was headed to dj a friends wedding reception so isaac came over to hang with us for the day.
talan and isaac got along great and at one point they gave each other about a 3 minute long hug. it would have gone on longer if talan had anything to say about it, but isaac was pretty much over it and wanted to get back to playing with the rocket.

i didn't think i'd have time to get my camera and get some pictures. i had no idea how long this hug would actually last:
talan showed no emotion while hugging. he was very serious about it all:

isaac looking longingly at all of the toys he wished he could start playing with again:

cool tricks, cool tricks!!!

on talan's favorite show, yo gabba gabba, they have a segment called cool tricks. someone comes out and does a "cool trick." once they had tony hawk come out and skateboard or a group come out and breakdance. on one episode, a kid came out and did some cup stacking.
one day, i found talan in the bathroom messing around with the dixie cups. when i started to drag him out, he started kicking and screaming and saying something i couldn't quite understand. all of a sudden is clicked and i realized he was saying "cool trick!" he had stacked the cups in pyramids.
he now does this every chance he gets and our dixie cups are almost always unusable.

27 months

talan shares his 27 month birthday with my, um, well, not 27th birthday.
this past month, talan has decided to add an "a" to the end of most words. words he was saying perfectly before, now end with an "a." all doneah, outsideah, greenah.
at the beginning of the month we worked for about 3 minutes on saying "rainah" and "hayden" properly and he now has it down. no more ray-ray and heyhen.
he still could care less about learning colors, or i guess paying attention to them. anytime you ask him what color something is, his first guess is green. he does almost always get pink and black right though. and for whatever reason, he really gravitates to pink. when we went to play putt-putt the other evening, he, of course, picked the pink ball. i'll let it go for a little bit....
after switching classrooms at church and not liking it too much, he now has now problem walking right in and getting down to business. we will occasionally go to pick him up and see that he has cheated and somehow gotten them to give him his binky. as soon as he sees us, he'll touch his binky and laugh saying "haha..a, binky" he totally knows he shouldn't have it.
a few weeks ago, the three boys were in the kitchen. something happened with a chair and hayden said "what the?!" talan chimed in to complete his sentence with "heck!" he will go around the house at times saying "what the heck?!" over and over.
he also will say "dang it!" at the most perfect times as well. while over and mom and dad's one day, he was setting up the pop beads to use as bowling pins. he knocked one over on accident and just said "dang it!" it took us a minute to figure out that was actually what he had said.
talan still loves to watch yo gabba gabba which has replaced the imagination movers as his favorite show to watch. he also loves wednesday nites which means the family sits and watches wipeout at 8pm. as soon as we say "are you ready to watch wipeout?" he immediately starts asking for popcorn which is the weekly ritual. he watches a good amount of the show before he starts getting crazy and running around the room. then we'll usually stick him in bed so we can watch and laugh in peace. he does love it though.
talan has gotten back into the habit of wanting books before bed and he will ask for more, more, more, just to keep from going to bed. his new favorite book to read every nite is a short little book called "night night baby." he also loves to read a touch and feel book called "playtime." one nite he had me read him a bunch of books and even after putting him into his crib he started crying for more. i left his room with him yelling "playtime! playtime!"
as often as possible, talan loves to go into hayden's room and check out all the cool toys he has in there. we keep hayden's door shut, and thankfully, it's a door that talan can't open (yet!). he loves to go in, turn on the music "rayoh!" and take out every toy from his containers. he also loves to go into hayden's art supplies and put stamps all over his arms.
up until recently, when you would put a phone to talan's ear he would just stand there listening to the person on the other end. several months ago he would start answering people's questions with a quiet "yeah" but recently he has started talking to people. the other evening, hayden called from mom's house and talan immediately said "hi hayden!" and started telling hayden all about how he was talking his toy dog for a walk." hayden was even able to understand quite a bit of what talan was saying.
while in meijer the other week, we passed one of the phones on the poles on talan threw both of his hands up to his ears and started loudly shouting "HEWO?" i have a hard time telling him to be quiet in those instances cuz it's just so dang cute.
he also knows that if you go to the deli at meijer you can get a free sample of cheese. as soon as we walk in the door he starts pointing to the deli area saying "ovah therah. cheese." he doesn't typically eat cheese at home, but he loves to eat it at meijer!
i have noticed that talan has gotten a bit better about not running away when he steps outside or is walking with you. i can now help him down off the porch, and he'll run right over to the car and get in. i think it took hayden about 4 years before that happened! talan does love to walk and anytime we get to a store and grab a cart or his stroller, he immediately starts saying "no! walk! no!" if dave is there, we sometimes let it happen so one of us can hold his hand, and he does really well with it. i still don't trust him as far as i can throw him, but it seems to be getting better!
his drum skills have also improved this last month with him crossing his hands over to play the snare and cymbal. he'll then take both hands and do a snare fill and then go back to the snare and cymbal. it's quite amazing.
talan still doesn't eat a whole ton, but it still depends on the day. he still has his same bedtime routine, although many evenings he gets to go to bed quite a bit later then before as it's summertime! he has also been sleeping in a bit longer as well. during hayden's school year, he was up around 7, just like hayden. i'm thinking since he's staying up a bit later plus the fact that there isn't a whole lot of moving around in the mornings now that we don't HAVE to be up and moving at 7, he's able to sleep a bit more. so he is typically up between 7:30 and 8 now. there have been a couple of morning where it's been close to 9 though!
he continues to love playing outside. he loves riding his bike. he loves baths. he loves coloring (for a few seconds at a time at least). he loves music and dancing and his drums. he loves running around the basement pushing his big trucks with hayden. he loves skateboards, and footballs, and basketballs. he loves swinging. he loves his blanket and binky and pooh bear and a few other stuffed animals. he still loves making messes, and can do so in record breaking time. he loves playing with the dixie cups in the bathroom. he loves motorcycles and still points out every single one. he loves dogs and cats. he loves putting all of his toy cars in the windowsill. he loves to harass hayden. he loves playing with "bowling pins." he loves cake and ice cream. he loves to climb on things and get into things he shouldn't.
he hates getting his hair washed in the bath. he hates bugs. he hates being told no and will have a tantrum anytime he hears the word (thankfully he still gets over it very quickly). he still hates sitting still. he hates being wiped while getting his diaper changed. he hates being cold or having wind blown in his face. he hates having to sit in his stroller. he hates having his face wiped clean. he hates sitting to eat. he doesn't really like anything to drink other than milk. he hates the toilet and is scared to death to sit on it.
talan continues to keep us on our toes as he is still the world's biggest mischief maker. you will often find him getting into thing you never thought he could. he is very determined and will pretty much do anything he puts his mind to. you can find him yelling and screaming many times throughout the day, however, his tantrums never last long. he is still able to get over them very quickly and move on to something else.
he continues to be a super fun, funny kid with a huge personality. dave thinks he wakes up most mornings thinking...what can i do to make people laugh today?! he also knows his cuteness and uses it to his full advantage by giving us looks and turning on his cute voice. he is usually quite generous with his kisses and hugs which are some of the greatest things in the whole wide world.
we love you tremendously, baby talan! you make our world so much better. happy 27 months!!

26 months

talan turned 26 months old today and boy has he ever embraced the terrible two's.
he continues to be a huge maker of mischief and is able to find his way in, out, and on anything he shouldn't. our front screen door proves to be tricky to unlock for even hayden, yet talan seems to be able to open it with no troubles. needless to say, we need to close the front door anytime we leave the room as we fear his escape. i imagine one of these days we'll be the parents on the news report of the 2 year old found walking down 8 mile.
he is very determined, so if he asks for something and is told no, he'll scream for a minute and then go about finding a way to do it on his own.
just in time for hayden's summer vacation, talan has decided to amp up the fighting with his older brother. talan has been perfecting the art of the younger brother and can find a way to push hayden's buttons like nobody else can. he will push, hit, lean on him, get in his face....anything to make hayden angry. and the more hayden yells no at him, the more he does it.
talan loves to watch and even try to play the bowling game on the xbox and at least once a day will bring me the game and say "bowling pin, bowling pin."
he continues to try and repeat most anything that we say, and often times comes really close. he still is really only speaking in about 2 or 3 word sentences, however. but he has more and more words and even phrases added to his vocabulary on a weekly basis.
he continues to love making messes. most days you can clean up the basement two or three times and pretty much right away he's back to taking every toy out of it's spot. he does often do a good job of cleaning up if we are down here telling him what to clean up though. so that's nice.
he still loves music and rocking out and plays his drums several times a day, much to the annoyance of his older brother who is usually downstairs trying to hear his video games. talan actually broke one of his electronic drumsticks in half by using it on the drums. needless to say, he's quite the heavy hitter.
he still doesn't usually have much of an appetite. he almost never sits down for an actual breakfast, but will walk around picking at things all morning. come lunchtime he's hit or miss. many times he will eat a whole "lunchable jr." which consists of turkey, crackers and cheese but many other days he'll take a few bites and then throw the rest on the floor. dinner's are also pretty hit or miss. sometimes he'll eat most everything on his plate and other nites he'll barely take a bite. no matter how much he eats, or doesn't eat, he still always has an abundance of energy!
his favorite foods would probably be pickles, salami and pepperoni. of course he loves any junk food as well. ice cream, cake, suckers, jelly beans, fruit snacks, pretzels, chips...anything that has no real nutritional value.
talan loves spinning around on the office chair. he loves running around the basement with his trucks and throwing balls. he loves motorcycles and says has to say "motorcycle" over and over every time he sees one. he loves playing outside and scooting around on his bike. he loves his blanket and has it with him almost all day. he loves his binky's and hates that he only gets them in his crib. he loves messing with hayden. he loves bath time. he loves going to grandma and papa's house. he loves yo gabba gabba and imagination movers and blues clues. he loves fireflight and all other bands that rock. he loves to be silly.
talan hates getting water in his face during bath time. he hates sitting. he hates actual meal times. he hates going to more than about 2 stores in a day. he hates being told no. he isn't very fond of having anything to drink other than milk. he hasn't been too fond of his new class at church. he still hates being wiped while getting changed. he hates wind blowing in his face and will put his blanket over his head.
talan still keeps us laughing every day. we try to enjoy the mischief he makes as much as it drives us crazy, because in all honesty, it is really quite funny. he is a very independent little toddler that has far more energy then most. he keeps us on our toes all day, every day.
we love you, t-money! happy 26 months!

master of mischief

talan has become quite the maker of mischief. anything he can get into, he does. things he really shouldn't be able to get in to, he does.
we had to put childproof locks on the door handles and on the cabinets, something we never had to do with hayden. but pretty much the day we put those things on, talan figured out how to get into them. he very deliberately opens up the bathroom cabinet as far as it will go with the latch on it, puts his little finger in, pushes down on the latch and then opens the door the rest of the way.
he doesn't generally rip up books, but one day during nap he had a book in his crib with him. when i went in to get him, the book was torn into thousands of pieces that were scattered all over the room, there was some even under the mattress.
he has, several times, gotten into a box of crayons and colored on the couch, a book, toys, and just yesterday he used a red crayon as a pick on dave's guitar. and this was happening while he was sitting directly behind me.
he has ripped up scrapbook pages that mom made for us and he found sitting on a dresser. but he very sleathly took them, ran into his room, hid behind his rocking chair and tore them up there.
on an almost daily basis...usually several times a day...he dumps out every toy from 1 or 2 toys baskets and spreads them throughout the living room. he will then sit in the basket or put it over his head and try to walk around the house that way.
he has gotten onto a chair, opened up a canister, pulled out a sucker, unwrapped the sucker and then eaten the sucker. he has gone into his diaper bag and pulled out whatever snacks he can find. and several times he has gone into the pantry and pulled out whatever he wants to eat, finds a comfy place and sits and snacks.
he loves to take his pants off and most recently has found if he pulls hard enough, he can also rip his diaper off. he now at least knows pee and poop belong in the potty so when he pulled his diaper off the other week he kept saying "potty" however, when you got him anywhere close to the potty he would run away screaming as he wants nothing to do with sitting on it. he then runs into the bathroom saying potty and by the time i got in there, he had peed in the corner all over the scale. he then ran out while i was cleaning it and proceeded to pee in the corner of the living room.
then just the other day i noticed he pulled his pants off and he was running around. it was just about nap time so i eventually tackled him and laid him down to change his diaper before putting him to bed. as i laid him down and his shirt went up i saw that he had no diaper on. hayden ran into our room and yelled "yup! his diaper is in here!.....and he peed on your bed!!!! no poop though, just pee!"
he almost always finds something new to get into or do every day. i now have to take keys with me anytime i walk outside as he has locked me out of the house twice now.
he hasn't climbed out of his crib yet, but i'm sure that's next!

we went to a friends house for a mops play date and when i went upstairs to get him he had gotten into their markers and drawn all over the kids table, chairs and himself:

this was the day he went into the pantry and pulled out a box of cookies, opened them up and put them all on the speaker. then he went and grabbed the pretzels and cheez-its which he took out of the box and i then found him laying on the couch eating them looking at me saying "mmm! yum!":

after i cleaned it all up and walked out of the room, he went right back to the pantry, grabbed the cheez-its and found a new place to snack on them:

he has shown a tiny bit of interest in the potty recently so i brought up hayden's old one to see if he would sit on it. he is scared to death to even try sitting on the potty, but the other day he thought it would be fun to put it over his head. dave said these pictures will definitely be going on his graduation picture collage board:

25 months

talan turned 25 months old today. i briefly thought about stopping these posts at age 2, but it just felt wrong not taking his picture with the bear. so we continue....
talan pretty much knows all of his letters now and tries to say the alphabet. he can repeat them all back to you really well and at the end will say "alphbet". he sometimes also tries singing it on his own, and you can almost always at least make out the "l, m, n, o, p" part.
he likes to count, but many times chooses to start at 3 instead of 1. he especially likes to count when he is playing with his little einstein's rocket toy.
talan LOVES to play outside. even more then hayden did/does. he could stay outside and play all day and nite. the other evening we were out there for awhile and it was about time for dinner. i knew he would have a fit if i said it was time to go in so i figured i'd give him a bath first. he would surely come in if i told him we were going in for a bath. it used to work for hayden. well, it didn't work for talan. not at first at least. he started yelling "ousiiide! ousiiide!" but eventually realized he really likes baths too, so that would be ok.
he loves bikes and points them out whenever he sees them. i went out the other weekend and bought him his own little tricycle that he can ride around on. he also loves to to tricks on he skateboard. you'll probably cringe if you ever see it, and one of these days he has to get hurt. but he loves it. he also just recently found out how much fun hayden's scooter is. i was planting flowers the other day and looked over to see him actually riding the scooter for quite a long distance. it was quite impressive. even hayden said "did you see that?! i saw him ride the scooter a really far way!"
he continues to love music and dancing and rocking out. ever since phee came over and played a bit on talan's drums, he now always says "phee!" every time he looks at his drums.
he came downstairs one evening while dave was playing the guitar and i guess he realized we actually have a real guitar here. so he now is constantly wanting me to open the case so he can strum it. which leads me to my next point.....
talan is the world's biggest mischief maker. as difficult as hayden was, he just didn't get into the things that talan does. every single day talan does something mischievous. one day he pulled out all of his clothes from all three of his dresser drawers. one day he got up on a chair, found a sucker, unwrapped it and ate it. one day he took the brand new scrapbook pages mom made for us, took them behind the chair in his room, and ripped them to shreds. he then led me right to it saying "uh oh. bad!" one day he opened the pantry door, took out a rubbermaid filled with cookies, opened those and took them all out, took out the pretzel container, and the cheez-its. he took them all out to the living room and then just sat down on the couch and ate as many cheez-its as he could before i could get to him. he has gotten into crayons and markers and has colored on couches, toys, and just yesterday he used a red crayon as a pick on dave's guitar. he has locked me out of the house twice now. he keeps us on our toes to say the least.
he switched classrooms at church and is now having a difficult time when we drop him off again. he usually tends to calm down, but we were called out one sunday when he wouldn't stop crying which then led to his cough really acting up.
he is talking a TON weather we can understand it or not...he's always talking. and you have to repeat what he said (if it's a real word) or he won't stop saying it.
he continues to go to bed between 7 and 8pm, depending on what time he gets up from his nap. he wakes up around 7 in the morning and goes down for nap at 1. he usually sleeps until 3:30 but sometimes is up at 3 and other times at 4. there are a handful of days that he refuses to fall asleep at all for nap. he generally goes down pretty easily, but there are nites he isn't so happy about it and will let you know. he wears a size 2t shirt and mostly 24 month/2t pants but still does wear some 18-24 month pants. we also just moved him to the size 5 diapers because he wakes up many mornings SOAKED. so far, so good.
he loves playing and being silly with hayden, especially at the dinner table. he loves baths. he loves bikes and playing outside. he loves swings. he loves donuts. he loves wearing his backpack around the house for long periods of time. he loves jumping on the bed. he loves suckers and all things sweet and not good for you. he loves making messes. he loves hiding when he has to poop. he loves the imagination movers, yo gabba gabba and the they might be giants here come the abc's movie. he loves to run and is faster than i am.
he hates the potty and is scared to death to sit on it. he hates having to come inside. he hates being told no, but his fits don't generally last that long. he hates sitting. he hates going to more then about 2 stores at a time. he hates when hayden tells him things that he doesn't want to hear and will point very sternly at hayden and yell "NO!". he hates being dropped off at his new class at church. he hates sitting to eat. he hates being cleaned up with a washcloth or wipes.
talan continues to be one of the funniest kids i've ever met. he is sweet and sassy all at the same time. he'll go from hitting hayden to saying "sorry" in the sweetest, kindest, softest voice you can imagine. he is our little rockstar/skater/athlete who seems to be able to do most anything he picks up right away. life is never dull with talan around.
we love you, t-money! happy 25 months!!!

mmmmm, chocolate

after spending the day at mom and dad's for easter yesterday, i sat talan down at around 6 to eat some dinner. i noticed that my easter basket was in the middle of the table but figured it was too far for talan to reach.
so i come downstairs to upload some photos and i keep thinking "my it's quiet up there" and i immediately start thinking...he either fell asleep or got into the easter basket. and i even told myself i should really go upstairs with the camera, but didn't.
well, i came right back down for it because this is what i saw:

2 year photos

i have reconnected with one of my old leaders from ward youth group and he is now doing a lot of photography work. he was looking for someone with a toddler that he could shoot (with his camera, not a gun) so he could add it to his portfolio. so i volunteered talan and we were able to get some GREAT shots out of the deal. they were taken towards the end of march so i was even able to use them as his 2 year pictures.
it was a great experience and we love how they turned out. paul said he was even going to come back and try to get a few pictures with the boys together since talan was NOT having hayden be anywhere near him for any pictures that day.
here are a few of the pictures from paul manoian photography:
